It’s also a fantastic opportunity for players to develop leadership, work ethic, and strong club values as they prepare for higher levels of competition.
On 30 May, our Narrikup Netball players will proudly represent the Albany Netball Association, along with other selected players from Clubs within the ANA, at the FTG&P Association Championships in Perth. This key event provides an exciting opportunity for players to compete, develop, and showcase their skills within the Netball WA pathway.
From here, participation in the championships will lead into further opportunities, including the Great Southern Regional Championships (17–19 July), where teams can continue to build on their performances and compete at a regional level.
Umpires & Coaches
Congratulations Tegan, Devon and Brianna, our Narrikup umpires, who have been selected to represent the Albany Netball Association at the FTGP Association Championships, as well as our dedicated selected coaches Fiona (N2, N13) and Mel (N6, N14, N16).
Thank you to all our players, coaches and officials. A fantastic achievement by all.
A Huge Day of Growth, Team Spirit and Netball for Narrikup
Narrikup Netball Club enjoyed an action‑packed and rewarding day at the 2026 Set & Go Carnival in Kojonup, where 18 of our D Grade players took to the courts alongside 12 other teams from across the region. With structured warm‑ups, rapid round‑robin games and a vibrant, supportive atmosphere, the carnival offered an invaluable early‑season experience for our young players.
The Kojonup Netball Association welcomed everyone warmly, providing excellent facilities, a bustling canteen filled with home‑baked treats, a BBQ and the all‑important coffee van. Teams from Dumbleyung, Katanning, Kojonup, Narrikup and Ongerup arrived with glitter, ribbons, fancy dress and plenty of excitement, setting the tone for a big day of netball and fun.
Players began with a seven‑station warm‑up session led by KNA volunteers, focusing on footwork, passing, agility, jogging and strength. From there, Narrikup’s Set and Go teams launched into ten games each, with seven‑minute halves and position rotations every half. Every player had the chance to try all positions on the court, and in the final two games the Go team even got to request their favourite positions, giving them a boost of energy to finish strong.
Jody captured the spirit of the day perfectly, saying “WOW what a big day full of netball!” Narrikup Set played eight of their games against Ongerup, Kojonup, Dumbleyung and Katanning, and for many players it was only their second day of competitive netball after playing their first-ever games just two days earlier. With no subs, the team relied on a “super‑sub cheerleader” to keep spirits high, and the upside was that every player enjoyed a full game in the same position to consolidate their learning.
Across both divisions, Narrikup players displayed excellent skills, strong footwork, defensive pressure, hands over the ball, intercepts, loose‑ball chases and plenty of goals. The competition was well matched, and the teams walked away with several wins. Jody said she was incredibly proud of the group, noting that “the difference in the play down the court from the start of the day to the end showed really great improvement and skills on display.”
The carnival also provided a wonderful opportunity for team building. Players supported each other with chanting, cheerleading and celebrating great intercepts and goals. “Give me an N… Give me an A…” and “1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Go Narrikup!” echoed across the courts, complete with red pom poms. The Go team supported the Set team during their bye, cheering loudly from the sidelines and encouraging teammates who needed breaks.
Sportsmanship was a standout feature of the day. With no scores kept, the focus remained on fairness, respect and enjoyment. Teams congratulated each other with handshakes, circles and warm acknowledgements of umpires and coaches. For many of our players who are new to netball, the carnival was a brave step forward, and their confidence, game knowledge and skill grew rapidly with each game.
Sarah said a highlight of the day was Jaelyn receiving the Star Shooter Award, presented with Perth Fever merchandise and a big cheer from her teammates. Every player and official also received a Certificate of Participation recognising their outstanding involvement in the NetSetGo program.
Both Sarah and Jody expressed their appreciation to the volunteers who made the day possible; including Mel, Jodi, Mickey, Erin and Tracey for organising, coaching and umpiring. Their efforts ensured our players had a positive, well‑supported and memorable experience.
The growth in confidence, skill, teamwork and friendship throughout the day made the 2026 Set & Go Carnival a truly worthwhile early‑season event, and one the club is already looking forward to again in 2027.
Sarah and Jody

What a brilliant start to the season for this team.
Every player took the court for their very first game of netball, and the excitement was clear from the first whistle.
It was a very even contest from start to finish. All the practice really showed, with excellent footwork, great spacing, and some impressive 4‑foot defence for a group so new to the game.
With both teams made up of beginners, the focus was simply on learning, trying hard, and enjoying the experience. There were no tactics or set plays at this level, but what truly stood out was how eager the girls were to listen, learn, and ask great questions. Their effort was outstanding, and they put everything they had into the game.
They exceeded our expectations in every way. They listened beautifully to the umpires, supported each other, and showed exactly what junior netball is all about.
A fantastic first outing, we couldn’t have asked for more. Bring on the season.

The girls started a little slowly, but once they settled, they meshed together beautifully, like they had been playing since modies. Strong defensive pressure across the whole court created some brilliant turnovers, and our shooters found their groove despite Kangas’ tough defence. We steadily built our lead and controlled the game well.
Kangas’ defenders were solid and made our shooters work, but we pushed through their mid‑court and opened up the play. Our shooting was accurate, and our defensive end was incredibly strong. One focus area moving forward is working the ball out cleanly from defensive throw‑ins.
A mid‑courter moved into goals and opened up new shooting combinations, giving us great versatility. The girls never stopped, supported each other, and exceeded expectations.
Players who stood out:
A strong first‑round performance and a well‑deserved win.

Narrikup Derby Delivers Classic Contest
Narrikup 3 secured a thrilling 23–20 win over Narrikup 4 in their A3 derby, edging out their opponents in a low‑scoring, hard‑fought encounter. Narrikup 3 set the tone early, jumping out to an impressive 11–4 lead in the first quarter. From there, Narrikup 4 lifted their intensity and worked relentlessly across the remaining three quarters, steadily closing the gap and ensuring the match stayed tight right to the final whistle.
Both teams showcased strong defensive pressure across the entire court, making scoring difficult and reinforcing the true derby atmosphere. With only seven players available, Narrikup 3 made a key tactical move by giving Charlotte the opportunity to play up, injecting much‑needed fresh legs into the game. Ultimately, Narrikup 3’s relentless effort and ability to maintain intensity throughout the match saw them hold on, with the team giving 110% to earn a well‑deserved victory.

Narrikup 11 Show Fight Against Kangas 7
Narrikup 11 took on Kangas 7 in a B2 matchup, with the final score ending 34–21 to Kangas. Narrikup 11 started strongly and held the early advantage, successfully putting centre‑pass drills into action while applying strong defensive pressure across the whole court. As the game progressed, Kangas began to gain momentum, but Narrikup 11 never dropped their intensity and continued to fight right through to the final whistle.
Strong teamwork was a major highlight for Narrikup 11, with plenty of intercepts and efforts to win back possession, although fitness was identified as an area to build on. Kangas showed strength in shadow defence, while rolling substitutions in the second half helped Narrikup 11 maintain energy and vary centre‑pass options as predictability started to creep in. Desireé stood out with excellent control of the game while playing centre, while Grace and Madison drew attention for their outstanding sportsmanship and enthusiastic on‑court support. Overall, it was a positive performance that showed the team is gelling well and building confidence.
This week, Jess caught up with Narrikup 1 Coach, Tanya, to talk through the team’s long‑awaited first game of the season. After a delayed start due to the opposition forfeiting in Round 1, the players were eager to finally take the court and show what they could do.
Tanya shared her thoughts on how the group settled in, the key moments that shaped the match, and the areas where the team really shone and moving forward.
With strong connections across the court and confident execution, Narrikup 1 delivered an impressive performance to secure a great win.

Round 2 with Tanya
Narrikup Netball Club is delighted to recognise Perdie as our Member of the Week for Round 2.
With the N12 coach away and several players unavailable due to illness and injury, Perdie stepped in without hesitation to ensure the team could still take the court. She organised fill‑ins, coordinated players, and kept the group settled and supported so the girls could participate confidently and represent the club without disruption. Her willingness to help and her calm, capable approach made a significant difference on a challenging weekend.
Perdie’s contribution to Narrikup extends well beyond this round. As both a valued parent and a generous club sponsor, she continues to play an important role in strengthening our community. Her ongoing support reflects the spirit of teamwork and commitment that sits at the heart of our club.
As a small token of appreciation, Sports Power Albany & Totally Surf has kindly donated a $25 gift voucher for Perdie in recognition of her efforts and dedication.

Narrikup 4 Deliver a Confident, Composed Performance
Narrikup 4 stepped onto Magpies’ home court knowing we didn’t yet have a win under our belt, and that meant one thing, we had to work hard from the first whistle. The girls settled in beautifully, taking their time to set up play, move the ball with purpose, and convert when opportunities came. Our passes were strong and accurate up the court, and the team worked together with real intent. By the end of the first quarter we were already 15 goals ahead, and that early dominance set the tone for the rest of the match. Each quarter we continued to outscore Magpies, staying disciplined and building on what was already working. The scoreboard told the story.
Key moments came from all areas of the court. Our defenders worked tirelessly to stay in front of their opponents, shutting down drives and forcing errors. In the goal circle, our shooters combined beautifully, finding space, using the circle well, and sinking their shots with confidence. Through the centre court, the drive onto the circle edge was strong, giving our shooters clean, well‑timed feeds.
Both teams brought their own strengths. Narrikup’s accuracy in the goal circle and the defensive unit’s ability to shut down Magpies’ attackers were standout positives. Our main area for improvement was communication, talking more would have lifted us even further. Magpies were physically strong, but their athleticism didn’t match the pressure we applied across the court.
Tactically, the focus was on getting in front, finding the body early, and staying ball side. In attack, the shooters worked together to use the circle and get closer to the post, which paid off throughout the game.
The team’s success came from their confidence in each other and their ability to stay focused on their individual roles. Even with a strong lead, they didn’t drop their intensity. Instead, they pushed themselves to show exactly what they’re capable of, something that made the coach incredibly proud.
Players who stood out:
Lauren, relentless work rate through the centre court, always available and always driving.
Alyssa, constant hard leads, never stopped presenting and creating options.
Pagean, growing confidence in the goal circle, taking strong ball and finishing well.
A strong, disciplined performance that showed just how much this group can achieve when they trust each other and stay switched on.

N13 Show Courage and Character in a Challenging Away Test
Narrikup’s N13 (D1) team hit the road to Denmark this week, taking on Magpies 9 in what proved to be one of their toughest tests of the season. Playing on unfamiliar courts and up against a tall, physical and highly skilled opposition, the girls were challenged from the first whistle. The final scoreline of 23–1 didn’t reflect the heart, effort and growth shown across four determined quarters.
Magpies applied strong pressure early, using their height and strength to disrupt play and force turnovers. Despite this, the Narrikup girls refused to be intimidated. They continued to compete for every ball, adjusted their structures as the game unfolded, and showed impressive resilience in the face of a dominant opponent.
One of the standout positives was the team’s attitude. At no point did heads drop. Instead, the girls embraced feedback, encouraged one another, and focused on improving each passage of play. Their defensive unit worked tirelessly all match, reading the ball well and lifting again in the final quarter to restrict Magpies to just four goals, a testament to their persistence and teamwork.
Across the court, there were encouraging moments of connection and smart decision‑making. The team continued to learn, adapt and find ways to challenge their opponents, even when the scoreboard wasn’t in their favour.
Strong individual performances added to the team’s effort.
Charlie led from the front with a composed and skilful captain’s game, setting the tone with her work rate and calm leadership.
Tilly impressed in WD, taking on much bigger opponents and creating valuable intercept opportunities through sheer determination.
Evie worked hard in attack, offering strong leads, presenting options and continuing to drive the ball forward under pressure.
While the result didn’t go Narrikup’s way, the experience was invaluable. Games like this build resilience, confidence and understanding, all crucial ingredients for long‑term development. The girls walked off the court proud of their effort, united as a team, and already looking ahead to their next challenge.
The club is incredibly proud of the spirit, courage and character shown by this young group. They represented Narrikup with heart from start to finish.

Narrikup 16 Show Grit and Growth in a Challenging Matchup
Narrikup 16 (D4 modified rules) took to the court against a strong and experienced Kangas side, facing a fast and confident opponent from the opening whistle. Kangas settled quickly, converting early centre passes with accurate shooting and building momentum. Despite the early pressure, Narrikup responded with determination, working the ball down the court with purpose and creating several promising scoring opportunities.
As the match progressed, Kangas continued to apply intensity across all areas of the court, but Narrikup refused to drop their heads. The girls fought for every possession, demonstrating resilience and a willingness to keep pushing right to the final siren.
There were many positives to take from the performance. Narrikup’s shoulder passes were stronger and more accurate, footwork continued to improve, and the team showed a growing understanding of space and movement. A key coaching focus during the week—introducing shadow defending—began to shine through, with several well‑timed intercepts and improved defensive positioning. At halftime, the group responded strongly to feedback about taking the inside position on centre passes, leading to noticeable improvement in the second half.
Overall, the match highlighted a team that is learning, adapting and growing each week. The girls are becoming more confident with the rules, more connected in their play, and more aware of how to support each other on and off the court. Their positive attitude, teamwork and enjoyment of the game were clear throughout.
A fantastic effort from the entire N16 team, who continue to build strong foundations for the season ahead.
This week, our roving reporter Jess caught up with Nicole, who stepped in to support the A6 team for Round 3. Her willingness to help ensured the team could take the court with confidence.
In the interview, Nicole shares her quick reflections on the match and what it was like stepping into the A6 line‑up for the round. Her insights highlight the teamwork and adaptability that keep Narrikup strong each week.
Watch the full interview to hear Nicole’s take on the game.
Sisters are Doing It for Themselves
This week’s Reaction Challenge brought a lovely moment as sisters Kacie and Emilia teamed up for a fun feature together. The pair stepped in with quiet confidence, ready to give the challenge a go and enjoy the experience side by side.
This wasn’t about rivalry or competition, it was simply a chance for the girls to try something new, share a few laughs and show the supportive spirit that runs through our club. Their teamwork, encouragement and natural connection made the challenge a joy to watch.
So who came out on top You’ll have to watch the video to see how it unfolded, but one thing is clear, both sisters brought their best and created a moment worth celebrating.
Enjoy this heart‑warming challenge and the smiles it brings.
