Congratulations to our 31 wonderful Narrikup players, umpire and coaches who proudly represented Albany at the Association Championships over a wild and stormy long weekend.
We are incredibly proud of the effort, commitment and sportsmanship shown by everyone in the lead-up to the carnival and throughout the weekend. It was fantastic to see so many Narrikup representatives contribute so strongly across the various teams, with some outstanding individual and team performances.
The 12.1 team, coached by Fiona and umpired by Brianna, finished third in a competitive division. They only lost against the eventual winners, and by just four goals — a terrific effort.
The 12.2 team, coached by Mel and featuring Gabby, also had a fantastic weekend. They narrowly missed out on a place in the grand final by just one point and finished third overall.
In the 13.1 team, Aroha, Bella and Suri helped guide their side all the way to the grand final in Division 2, where they were defeated by Wanneroo by three goals after a strong tournament.
The 13.2 team included Poppy, Jenaya, Mahlee, Millie, Ivy and Mia, and remained undefeated throughout the weekend. Unfortunately, they missed out on a grand final spot on percentage. Mia’s outstanding performances were recognised with the MVP award.
The 14.2 team, featuring Brooke, Sam and Hetta, had mixed results across the weekend but still achieved a commendable top four finish.
The 16.1 team, with Ruby, Nevah and Ava, built momentum as the weekend progressed. After a slow start, they finished strongly with some excellent wins to claim third place overall. Ruby was also named MVP for her strong performance in goals.
The 16s Team 2 had a challenging competition with several close losses, but they showed terrific spirit and resilience throughout the weekend. This Narrikup-heavy side included Zarah, Caitlin, Charlotte, Aida and Hannah, with Hannah earning the MVP award for her fierce defensive efforts. Tegan also did a fantastic job umpiring both this team and the 13.2 side.
One of the highlights of the carnival came in the 20s division, where Hollie, Courtney, TP and Mischa played key roles in a thrilling one-goal grand final victory to win their division.
In the Open team, Devon was selected as Albany’s B Badge umpire, while Mary joined the team at late notice when additional players were needed. Competing in Division 1 against some very strong metro teams, they showed great determination and represented Albany with heart and smiles all weekend.
Well done to all players, coaches and officials involved. Narrikup was very well represented, and the club should be proud of everyone’s efforts and achievements.
