
Umpiring at Narrikup Netball Club
Narrikup Netball Club is committed to supporting and developing confident, capable umpires. We run our own Umpiring Program and work closely with the Albany Netball Association (ANA) to ensure our umpires are trained and supported in line with current ANA and Netball WA requirements.Our goal is to provide every possible opportunity and assistance to help umpires grow, gain confidence, and progress through accreditation pathways.
Green Shirt Program (GSP)
The Green Shirt Program (GSP) is an ANA‑run, practical and theory‑based umpiring program designed for beginner umpires of all ages who are starting their umpiring journey at a grassroots level.The program aims to:
- Create and develop a supportive culture where umpiring is valued and promoted as a pathway to participate in netball
- Build foundational skills, knowledge and confidence in beginner umpires
- Strengthen the overall umpire workforce across clubs and the Association
Participants are encouraged to:
- Wear a Green Shirt Program uniform while umpiring to indicate they are learning
- Be willing to accept constructive feedback from Umpire Coaches and Coordinators
- Be available to umpire regularly on a rostered basis
- Attend online theory discussions as part of the program
- The GSP has proven to be an important step in umpire development and has shown strong results in building capacity within clubs and associations.
Green Shirt Program – Pre‑Requisites
- To participate in the Green Shirt Program, umpires must:
- Be a registered member of Netball WA (as a player, umpire or volunteer)
- Study the Official Rules of Netball (book or app)
- Sit the Rules of Netball Theory Exam via the Netball Learning Centre
- Complete the Foundation Umpiring Course via the Netball Learning Centre
ANA Cadet Umpire Program
Narrikup Netball Club also participates in the ANA Cadet Umpire Program, which is designed for umpires who have been umpiring for some time and would like to be viewed, mentored and assessed in preparation for badging.This program provides:
- Structured observation and assessment against Netball Australia Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Constructive feedback from Umpire Coaches
- Guidance on skill and knowledge areas required for accreditation
- The timeframe for completion varies depending on individual development needs and may require approximately 3–6 games, depending on which KPIs need focus.
Cadet Program – Pre‑Requisites
- To be eligible for the Cadet Umpire Program, participants must:
- Be a registered member of Netball WA (player, umpire or volunteer)
- Have previous umpiring experience (minimum of two seasons)
- Study the Official Rules of Netball (book or app)
- Sit the Rules of Netball Theory Exam via the Netball Learning Centre
- Complete the Foundation Umpiring Course via the Netball Learning Centre
- Preferably have completed Rules Discussion (face‑to‑face or online)
- Places in the Cadet Program are limited, depending on the availability of mentors and assessment panels.
